I want to share with you a portion of an email from our team member in Latvia (near Russia). She writes:

"Well, praise the Lord! I can tell you that the American staff with our church here are all diligently praying for our nation. And our Russian-Latvian church members have also labored in prayer with us.

..

During the recent election drama, we all felt such a heavy burden to pray, pray, pray for the situation. Our pastor is a MAJOR intercessor and intercessory leader nationally here in Latvia, and he helps keep us stirred up, as well. But at one of our Friday night prayer meetings during this time when it looked like it could easily go either way, we Americans felt we just had to pray right then. It was all we could think about.

Of course, our church members would pray with us because they love us and appreciate all the U.S. has done for missions, etc., but they naturally don't feel the passion for it that we do as Americans. However, they really rallied as my pastor's wife, Sharon, came to the front of the church to pray. Before she could open her mouth to pray, she began to weep, something she very rarely does publicly. When she could speak, she reminded them of the many years we, and thousands of Americans, had wept and prayed and cried out to the Lord for the people of the USSR during their times of suffering and oppression. Now they are free, but it was now America's hour of need, and she implored them to take up the burden and cry out to God for our nation, as we had for theirs… There wasn't a dry eye in the house! And the church rallied together, crowding around and laying hands on each of the Americans, and prayed to shake the heavens! It was amazing. And they continued to pray after that, until the victory was won. They have rejoiced with us in George W.'s victory, even as the rest of Europe mourns Gore’s loss.”
